Jennifer Cortes is a partner and one of the founders of Verma Cortes, LLC Ms. Cortes has 20 years of professional experience working as a licensed attorney and over 25 years of experience working on immigration-related issues. Ms. Cortes represents clients in immigration family matters, removal proceedings, complex waivers, naturalizations, humanitarian cases and custody matters before the Montgomery County Circuit Court of Maryland.
Ms. Cortes was born in Bogotá, Colombia and was the daughter of a Lebanese Immigrant. Ms. Cortes came to the United States in December 1994. She attended the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC where she obtained a Juris Doctor degree and a Certificate in Specialized Program of Studies in Comparative and International Law.
Throughout her career Ms. Cortes has been an active participant with AILA (American Immigration Lawyers Association) and she is currently serving as Co-Chair of the AILA MD-EOIR Liaison Committee. Since 2010, Ms. Cortes has served as volunteer attorney with CASA, a non-profit organization providing legal services to the immigrant community in the metropolitan Washington DC area. Ms. Cortes also provides pro bono legal services through KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) and the Montgomery County Bar Association of Maryland.
Ms. Cortes personal commitment to immigration law and professional competence make her an effective advocate for all immigrants seeking legal status in the United States.
