Johanna Resler began her journey with Verma Cortes LLC as a Legal Assistant in May 2019. After relocating to California in July 2025, she transitioned into her current role as Media Coordinator in November 2025. Johanna now oversees the firm’s social media presence and outreach initiatives, creating and managing engaging content to connect with our community.
Originally from Indianapolis, Johanna graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy.
She was the Assistant Editor for the Santayana Edition, which is housed on the campus of Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis within The Institute of American Thought, from June 2001 until December 2010. Along with this role, she was the Managing Editor for Documentary Editing, the journal for The Association for Documentary Editing from August 2002 until June 2007. During this time, she received a graduate certificate in Professional and Scholarly Editing (2005) and her master’s degree in English (2007) both from Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis.
Recently her article, “Out of Context,” was printed in Volume I Issue VII of the Marietta House Museum Newsletter (May 7, 2021). The article highlights and discusses context for George Santayana’s famous quote, “[t]hose who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” In August 2021 she received her Small Museum Professional certificate from the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH).
Johanna has been an active volunteer for the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada and Girls Scouts Nation’s Capital. She’s held many roles during this time including Troop Leader, Service Unit Manager, and co-director for a local Girl Scout summer camp.
